Gerard Leenen - First PADI Course Director in Cambodia Thursday, March 25, 2010
Scuba Nation are proud to announce that founder Gerard Leenen has become the first PADI Course Director in Cambodia. This is the highest rating possible for a professional PADI diver and all the divers and staff here send their congratulations to Gerard.

The course has many pre-requisites before you are even allowed to apply. After your application is accepted for consideration, potential candidates are ranked according to criteria such as experience, contributions to the environment and good diving practice. World-wide, the top 70 only are accepted each year. Most people apply several times before being accepted but Gerard was invited to participate on his first application.

The course took place this month over 2 weeks in Borneo, Malaysia. It involved evaluations on all aspects of teaching PADI Instructors to become Instructors! Although the candidates had done Knowledge Reviews and lectures before the course began, the time-table was rigorous with hours each day from 8am-6or7 pm plus presentations and exercises to prepare in the evening.

After all this, on the 24th March 2010, Gerard had his final evaluation and was awarded the rank of Course Director. For us and all the people who know him, there was never any doubt that he would pass and that he  thoroughly deserves his new rating. He will now be teaching Instructor Development Courses from May this year. Anyone interested in taking part in the first (or any) IDC in Cambodia should contact us at info@divecambodia.com

Today we received this email from PADI

Announcing the Finalists & Winners of the Members Awards 2010

To better recognise the achievements of those PADI Dive Centres and Resorts who have made significant contributions to the growth and development of diving, PADI Asia Pacific is pleased to announce the finalists and winners of this year’s PADI Asia Pacific Member Awards program which recognises their efforts from 2009.

The PADI Member Awards program was based on nine separate Asia Pacific regions; a system that ensured PADI Members compete with other PADI Members within their own geographical region for one of five Awards.

All PADI Dive Centres and Resorts within each of the nine regions were considered for nomination by a specially convened selection panel, who selected up to three finalists for each of the awards.

A panel of PADI judges then considered all of the finalists within each region and we are very pleased to announce the following finalists and winners of this year’s awards.

PADI congratulates all of our Members on the outstanding job you do training divers and we wish you the best of success for the remainder of 2010.

PADI Scuba Diving Tips of The Day » To minimize damage to marine life, ensure that all dangling equipment is secured close to the body and is not dragging. Use good diving techniques: stay properly weighted, neutrally buoyant and off the bottom. You’ll see and learn more by floating relaxed and neutrally buoyant than by chasing fish, sculling with your hands or kicking up the bottom.
